Korean Counseling Psychology Association (KCPA)
In 1986, the division of Clinical and Counseling Psychology under the Korean Psychological Association (KPA) was divided into two separate divisions each with different emphases: counseling or diagnosis. Therefore, the division of the Counseling Psychology and Psychotherapy Association was launched in 1987. In 1996, the Counseling Psychology and Psychotherapy Association changed its name into the Korean Counseling Psychological Association (KCPA). Founded originally in 1987, KCPA is the largest association exclusively representing Korean professional counselors in various practice settings. By providing leadership training, publications, continuing education opportunities, and advocacy services to nearly 30,000 members, KCPA helps counseling professionals develop their skills and expand their knowledge base. Korean Counseling Association (KCA)
Four independent associations convened a joint convention in Seoul in 2000: Korean College Counseling Association, Korean Career Counseling Association, Korean Youth and Adolescent Counseling Association, and Korean Group Counseling Association, in hopes of providing a larger professional voice. Despite its short history, with nearly 25,000 members, the Korean Counseling Association (KCA) is associated with a comprehensive network of 8 divisions and 7 branches.
